TEXTURAL GEOMETRIC FOR A NEW YORK CITY TOWNHOUSE
When the very talented Emma Montgomery Design returned to Creative Matters requesting the perfect living room rug for a client in the Brooklyn Heights neighbourhood of New York City, we thought long and hard about what design would sit well with the powerful artworks in the room and within the Greek key inlay detailing on the floor. We explored some softer geometrics in a…
UNDERSTATED CHIC FOR A PARISIAN ART GALLERY
One of the first projects out of our new European satellite office is this immaculately designed rug for a temporary art gallery. We rarely have requests for such effortlessly-looking designs which are actually the most complex to create. Details reign from the tones of the greys to the precise placement of the lines to the varying pile heights for rich texture. The carpet was designed to…
THE OMBRE ROUTE TO POLISHED VERSATILITY
Meet one of the five new ombre additions to the Sonance Collection! Inspired by the heavenly hues of the design with the same name, Chord – Gradient was initially conceived to complement interiors with the original Chord rug. Many orders later it has evolved into not only a solo standout but also a striking complement to…

INUIT ARTIST’S NORTHERN LANDSCAPE RECAST AS A WOOL AND MOHAIR RUG
Our Storytelling Collection is a remarkable departure for Creative Matters. Rather than our own designs, it comprises rugs we have created from special works of Canadian visual artists. For each one, our designers must decide which construction and yarns will not only represent the integrity of the artist’s intent but also how to enchant in the textile medium.
PAINTERLY BRUSH STROKES FOR AN INDUSTRIAL INTERIOR
It’s always a pleasure when clients appreciate how just the right artistically rendered rug design and colours can add understated warmth, comfort and intrigue to a modern space. The painterly brush strokes of the rug for the reception area of a Boston investment firm provide an interesting softness to its contemporary, industrial interior.
HOW WE CUSTOMISED THE ICHIBAN COLLECTION RUG
Our client chose the Ichiban design from the Arashi Collection but needed us to customize the rug in method of production (handtufted rather than handknotted); fibre content (from wool and silk to 100% wool); size; and colour.
TEXTURAL LUXE RUGS FOR THE PRESIDENTIAL SUITE
Texture reigns supreme throughout our three-rug series installed in the presidential suite at the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto in January. Exploring various heights of loop and cut pile in a caramel and blue accent palette, a graceful continuity was achieved with each rug design visually flowing into the next.
GLOW FROM BELOW AND GLOW FROM ABOVE
In a quest for a rug to bring harmony to a reception area, we recommended a custom version of Glow from our Aerial Collection.
THE JOY OF COLOURFUL DESIGN
What bliss to work with a favourite interior designer; a carefully curated space with impressive art collection; and be given the freedom to play with a colourful palette and daring design.
EXACTING COLOUR WORK ENHANCES HARMONIOUS SPACE
When Dymon Wine Cellar – a novel concept in communal wine storage – needed a sophisticated rug for the accompanying lounge, we presented a variety of options including a custom version of Orchestra from our XXV Collection.
