WHEN A FLOORCOVERING DESIGNER CREATES HER OWN RUG

Sandra Ciganic-McKinney is a senior designer at Creative Matters. For a long time she had wanted to create her own 8’ x 12’ rug for the living room of her Toronto home. Finding it much harder to design for herself rather than a client, her rug was finally installed last month. For the background Sandra was inspired by the colour and texture of cement. Once that was finessed to her own high standards, she layered teal brush strokes and a mustard doodle. It may sound simple but by the time she was finished there were 11 colours and 27 blends. Asked to describe the finished project, she declared it “Painterly with a fun mustard accent.”
