Recently, Creative Matters designed Alpine, a needle-felted wool wall covering made with 100% wool. Expanding our wall covering designs with natural materials offers our clientele the ability to create sustainable works of art in any colour or size, with tremendous benefits.

Celebrating Canadian Wool 

Alpine is crafted from Canadian wool. In addition, manufacturing the wall covering at a mill in Ontario reduces our carbon footprint and supports local farmers and wool producers. Ana Diosdado, Senior Designer & Project Manager says, “Creative Matters likes to craft artistic pieces that will last a long time, with wool we can achieve this because wool is biodegradable, water-repellent and offers remarkable acoustic qualities to ensure more productive and acoustically comfortable environments, making it an ideal material for our wall coverings.”

Inspired by Rich Textures and Vibrant Hues

Alpine combines our passion for natural materials and traditional techniques. Drawing inspiration from our Tellurian collection, it features intriguing texture and warmth. Using needle-felted wool achieves a distinctive layered texture akin to an oil painting. Leah Phillips, Director of Creative Matters’ Art & Wall Covering Division, describes the new wall covering, “The artwork is truly stunning when seen in person. The artistry and vibrant colour interpretations grab your attention. The range of textures achieved through working with wool creates depth and delivers artistry.”

From Concept to Creation: The Production Process

Needle-felting was chosen for this wall covering product for its ability to produce intricate, layered designs. This method allowed for small batch production, ensuring each piece was distinctive. Close communication with our mill in Ontario allowed for precise execution of Alpine. We envision crafting this type of wall covering on a grander scale and in an array of custom colours.

Alpine celebrates more than just Canadian wool; it celebrates local farmers, mills, and production while providing a vision for future sustainable textile designs for interiors.
