Inside Deloitte’s Vancouver office is a design story where architecture, nature and brand identity converge. Creative Matters rugs bring the design story to life with four custom area rugs in collaboration with AFK Studios. Each dye-injected nylon rug was made in the U.S. The area rugs quietly ground the space, bringing texture, cohesion and a subtle sense of place to one of Canada’s leading consulting firms.

THE LANGUAGE OF CORPORATE RUG DESIGN

Designing rugs for professional spaces is a collaborative process. Working closely with AFK Studio’s design vision for Deloitte, from the reception to the cantina, each rug was crafted with the West Coast-inspired interiors in mind.

“The look and feel of the space were driven by a connection to nature with biophilic office design through materials and textures, plant life, terrain and pops of colour,” said Kayla Bortolotto, Senior Designer & Creative Operations Lead, Creative Matters. “The designs had a strong connection to Vancouver’s coastal and mountainous landscape.”

The custom rugs were an extension of Deloitte’s brand identity, tailored to harmonize with the architecture and existing design elements. The design of the reception and seating area rugs was heavily influenced by the natural textures and earthy terrain of Vancouver’s coastal landscape, a theme of Deloitte’s office design.

“These were areas created to sit and reflect,” said Kayla. “It was important that the rugs conveyed a sense of calm and authenticity through organic textures.”

BRAND IDENTITY THROUGH CUSTOM RUGS

Weaving brand identity through interiors is more than its literal representation, it is about expressing values and tones through materials and colours. Creative Matters thoughtfully curated a palette of 22 colours to ensure all four rugs worked cohesively across their respective spaces, despite differences in texture and pattern. The two seating area rugs shared the same colouration and were designed with a unified intent, situated just meters apart to create visual harmony within the open-concept layout.

A subtle thread of Deloitte’s signature green was also incorporated for this custom rug installation in Vancouver.

“The green in the design was definitely a nod to their branding, but usually the design is impacted by the city that the building is in,” explained Sandra Ciganic-McKinney, Creative Director, Creative Matters. “We’ve worked on projects in Toronto and Montreal and the rugs there looked quite different.”

The result is a collection of pieces that feel intrinsically tied to Vancouver, both in tone and in spirit.

TAILORED RUGS FOR MODERN WORKSPACES

Crafting custom rugs for corporate spaces brings slightly different challenges compared to designing for hospitality or residential, but the storytelling remains. Unlike hotels or residential settings, the demands of professional environments shape everything from materials to maintenance. The result is a project that offers clear office space design inspiration, especially from a colour perspective.

“There’s often a greater emphasis on durability, budget and cleaning requirements,” explained Sandra. “For Deloitte, dye-injected nylon construction made in the U.S. allowed us to meet the budget without compromising on design complexity.”

Branded office rugs can play a role in how people gather, move and experience a workplace. Designed with intention, they are quiet symbols of a brand’s place and purpose. More than decorative elements, these rugs embody Deloitte’s culture and values.

The result is a performance-driven solution that delivered on visual intent while meeting the needs of high-traffic area rugs.
