With the launch of our new website this week, we welcome the arrival of our first-ever Creative Matters online shop. Savvy consumers and rug investors will now be able to view and order a contemporary, handcrafted Creative Matters collection rug with a click of a mouse. Previously our collections were only available from select retailers, through an interior designer or very rarely from a pop-up store near our studio.

WHAT IS A COLLECTION RUG?

We create all sorts of floorcoverings. Many are custom projects for hotels, offices, cruise ships, homes, diplomatic residences, museums and more. Complementing our custom work are a number of themed design collections (“prêt-à-porter” if you will). Thirteen of these collections are now available on our website - from our XXV Collection comprising 23 designs and colourways to our recently released Storytelling Collection.

The collection rugs in our online store are all handknotted in wool and silk. These rectangular rugs, usually made in Nepal, occasionally in India and very recently in Afghanistan, are available in standard sizes. (Of course they can all be customized by method of production, shape, size and colour but that’s another story: Customizing a Collection Rug.)

HANDKNOTTED

While our collection rugs are created according to our designs, no two handknotted rugs are ever exactly the same, which is part of their beauty.  For each rug the wool is spun and dyed by hand and every single knot is tied individually by skilled artisans. Normally it takes about four months to weave and ship one of our collection rugs. If time is of the essence though our new online shop also features a number of exquisite rugs currently in stock.

FAIR TRADE - IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING

Creative Matters works with Label STEP, a Swiss NGO, as our fair trade partner in Nepal, India and Afghanistan. We are proud that every one of our collection rugs is made under STEP’s watchful eye according to their exacting fair trade standards.

ONLINE SHOPPING

Once at the online store you have choices. If you want a rug immediately, choose one that has already been handknotted and is waiting in our warehouse to be shipped to you. Until the news gets out, please check out the rugs in our Available Stock section and in our Rugs on Sale section. Stay tuned as we continue to add more stock to this section in the coming months. If however you can wait for your precious cargo, you can order any of the designs in our collections and it will be handknotted for you in the specific size and/or colours of your choice.

AN INVESTMENT

Regardless of whether you take immediate delivery or wait for a rug to be made, a Creative Matters collection rug is an investment. With proper maintenance and cleaning, these rugs can be enjoyed for generations to come.
