WALLCOVERING INSPIRATION FOR INTERIOR DESIGNERS

The interior design opportunities of wallcoverings have risen exponentially in the last 10 years. Due to new digital and printing technologies, what used to be "wallpaper"  has opened up to a whole new world of different materials and effects. It is now feasible to order a small run - even for a single wall - using photographs, maps, hand-drawn artwork and more, so clients can now enjoy both truly unique pieces and unprecedented colour matching.

In the last couple of years, we have assisted clients with custom wallcovering projects ranging from original native art for a healthcare setting to a restaurant owner's own photography creating the main design focus to our own Dream design customized  (complete with glass beads) for a Florida beach home.

Leah Phillips, who led the launch and development of our wallcovering Collections in 2013 (Graphic Collection  and Watercolour Collection), worked as a wallcovering designer for 10 years before joining our firm. Back then, she was hand painting designs but with the recent technological developments, she is now revelling in an incredible range of other design methods.

Creative Matters has also recently released a look book of starting point designs which can be customized into rug or wallcovering designs. We ask Leah which ones she most immediately envisaged for the wall.

Wallcovering Collections

Some of the designs in the collections have already been selected by interior designers and used creatively.

Timing
A thrilling note for interior designers under time constraints - it only takes two weeks to produce a sample and between two and four weeks for the production of the final wallcovering.

Needle Felting
This is a special - and so far little-seen effect - where we embellish a wallcovering by interlocking the fibres. Enabling us to create the softer lines associated with watercolour effects and painterly designs, it also adds texture and warmth.

Eco-Friendly
Today's wallcoverings include a full range of natural and recycled materials, renewable resources, organic and eco-solvent inks along with fire-ratings, sound insulation and LEED credits.
