Custom Carpets for a Florida Residence with ACDO

From the earliest stages of the project, Creative Matters collaborated with ACDO to develop a collection of five custom rugs that would become integral to the home's material language.  Working from architectural renderings, finish palettes and conceptual direction, the team developed five bespoke rugs that were conceived alongside the interiors rather than selected after them.

Each space required a different solution. The dining room rug became a study in performance as much as aesthetics. Measuring 14 by 21 feet, it was hand tufted from 100% wool and refined through multiple rounds of sampling to determine the ideal pile heights, construction and finish.

The field features a 7 mm cut pile with lower loop accents, including areas of undyed wool that introduce a soft, natural contrast. A beveled edge finish further defines the composition, while the border is executed in loop pile with 75% tip shearing, creating a refined distinction between the perimeter and the central field. The final design was engineered to withstand the weight of a substantial dining table, slender dining chairs and the heavy circulation of a space connecting the home to the outdoor living areas.

"Every room asks for something different from a rug. Our role is to understand how a space will be lived in, then translate that into the right construction, materials and craftsmanship so the rug performs as beautifully as it looks." — Ana Diosdado, Senior Designer & Project Manager Creative Matters

Elsewhere, a corridor runner reinterprets Creative Matters' Resonant Gradient design from the Sonance collection through a custom colour palette, while additional hand-tufted and flatwoven rugs respond to the distinct functional requirements of the staircase, playroom and outdoor living room.

Completed over two years, the project demonstrates the value of involving rug specialists from the outset. Rather than adapting standard products to fit the architecture, every construction, material, colour and proportion was developed specifically for the home, allowing the rugs to contribute warmth, acoustic comfort and a seamless dialogue with the surrounding interiors.
