A FRESH DEPARTURE FOR AN AIRPORT MAP

Chapi Chapo Design came to us with a map of the Pearson airport in Toronto, the Hilton's local airport. Could we create a carpet from it? Indeed we could. The biggest challenge was to create line work (in lower loop pile) in the appropriate width so that the weight of it would be fine enough to create an overall balance, yet heavy enough so that it didn’t get lost in the cut pile - all details we consider and test throughout the sampling stage. We added subtle gradation in the field for both texture and added depth to evoke the sensation of overlooking the city prior to landing.
