THE NEW 2016 ARCTIC COLLECTION DESIGNS

We launched the Arctic Collection with five designs in late 2015 at the New York International Carpet Show. Meanwhile our artisans in Nepal and India were fervently knotting away in wool and silk so that we could present the second half of the collection at our January shows in Germany and France.

UP CLOSE WITH FRAGMENT - BLUE

Carol Sebert said Fragment was the design that surprised her most when it arrived as a rug. "This was the first time we had tried our manufacturing partner in India with such a complex pattern and they did a truly terrific job. The colours are magnificent and rich, and the quality of the knotting is superbly handled with the close attention to fine details. The finished rug looked exactly like the artwork!"

Designer Ashley Solymar was also delighted with the fluid beauty achieved by her vision of crystal and opaline white shards floating on a complex blend of indigo and Prussian Blue. "I particularly enjoy how I succeeded in achieving the illusion of movement and how the design is so abstract - there is no beginning or end."

UP CLOSE WITH GLACIER - BLUE

According to Carol, Glacier may have been the rug that received the most interest at the January 2016 shows in Germany and France. "The subtlety of the design with the delicacy and the transition of the colour along the straight lines against the organic field adding excitement ... not a 'geometric' rug, not an 'organic' rug - truly in the middle."

Designer CIémence Hardelay said that as she started working on the background as a glacier, the design was too simple, so she added the lines in diamond shapes. "The graphic lines are 100% silk so they stand out from the background. I also placed silk carefully throughout to show the glitter of ice. I am delighted with the softness, depth and sophistication of the Glacier rug."

UP CLOSE WITH SHIVER - GREY

We are pleased to announce that Shiver has already been ordered for a very special client - its designer's yet-to-be-born son! Sarah Stevenson said the design became the inspiration for the whole theme of the nursery. "I like the balanced nature of the design with the triangle and diamond “fringe” on either end.  The surprise element is the unexpected colour placement and how the design breaks apart. The lightest colour is silk, adding that shiver sparkle to the pattern."

Jewel - Snow, Shard - Blue, Facet - Grey and Shattered - Blue are the other four designs that complete the 2016 designs for the Arctic Collection. They too are visually captivating expressions of the natural idiosyncrasies of frozen water. When asked to choose a current favourite from the collection, Carol said, “Crystallize just wows me. It has a gentle movement while having this brittle imagery of ice crystals … exquisite.”
