STEP INSIDE CHALET: A NEW ADDITION TO THE MACRAME COLLECTION, LAUNCHING AT COVER CONNECT NEW YORK

Introducing the latest addition to Creative Matters' Macrame rug collection: the Chalet rug. The never-before-seen rug is set to make its debut at COVER Connect New York, the boutique trade show, held in central Manhattan, bringing together leading high-end rug designers, buyers and retailers from around the world.

The Chalet Rug

To properly introduce you to this new textural floor covering, we’re delving into the minds of Sandra Ciganic-Mckinney and Leah Phillips. Discover their favorite aspects of working on this creation, the challenges they encountered and how they overcame them.

Inspired by the intricate crafting technique employing knots to create various textures, the Macrame collection celebrates the timeless appeal of undyed wool in all its natural shades, with accents of dyed wool. The new Chalet rug adds a fresh take to this range of skillfully handwoven designs.

Sandra Ciganic-Mckinney, Creative Matters’ Creative Director behind the Chalet rug, shares “Chalet is a nice linear break from the more organic designs in the Macrame collection.”

“It is simple and neutral and will work in so many spaces,” says Sandra. “Though the final product appears straightforward, the process took some time. We worked back and forth with the mill to achieve the rope accents in the design, and we were quite pleased with the final outcome. I particularly love how the solid caramel overlays interact with the black lines, giving a delicate, paper-like transparency."

Leah Phillips, Director of Art and Wallcovering Division, Creative Matters

The Creative Matters designer behind this project was Leah Phillips, our Director of Art and Wallcovering Division. Reflecting on her experience with this exciting design project, Leah says, "What I love most about the Macrame rugs is their mix of techniques. In the Chalet rug, my favourite part is the different textures appearing within the charcoal lines. They’re all the same colour, but the widths and pile heights vary. Some are cut pile, others are chunky loop and my absolute favourite detail are the lines made with bound ropes in wool and silk. It was an unusual detail and a weaving challenge. We rotated the rug in the weaving to be able to incorporate the ropes because they were a detail so integral to the design."

Stay tuned to see more fresh designs and collections launching at COVER Connect New York. Until then, you can browse the full Macrame collection here.
