ORCHESTRA RUG DESIGN FOR PARIS SALON
Orchestra is one of our most popular designs, so it was no surprise when our client in Paris selected it for their stunning salon. The design - released in 2013 as part of the XXV Collection - is available in both a dark and a light version.
The ornate room, officially named Salon Vanier, is within Canada’s Official Residence in Paris and is used by the ambassador for entertaining. Creative Matters President Carol Sebert managed the assignment. “It was a huge honour to be part of this project and I really love that a contemporary design like Orchestra can fit so perfectly into this classic French salon,” she said.
“We called this piece Orchestra because the background movements are a little like sound waves and the straight silk lines reminded us of the strings of a violin or a cello,” said Carol. The rug was handknotted in Nepal under fair trade conditions in wool and silk as is almost always the case with our collection designs. They can all be customized and for Salon Vanier we needed a special size of 13’ x 18’.
There are 16 colour blends in this design in a range of silvers and golds. The combination of warm and cool tones within one rug is particularly interesting. “Orchestra adds sparkle with the silk into the fifth wall (the floor) which relates so gorgeously with the gold and cream painted cabinets. It has a delicacy like the painted motifs on the walls,” said Carol.
We continue to be amazed how the design seems to fit any room from contemporary to traditional. Below are just two of the many times a customized version of Orchestra has found a home in a contemporary setting.
