Hariti
(June 12, 2008), Toronto-based design firm, Creative Matters Inc., today announced it will create and donate a one-of-a-kind hand-knotted luxury rug to RugMark, the nonprofit Washington, D.C.-based foundation working to end child labour in the carpet industry.
“Through its RugMark membership Creative Matters is making an industry-wide call to action to end child labour by generously donating a rug in honour of World Day Against Child Labour. This type of corporate engagement is what it will take to create real change,” says Nina Smith, RugMark USA’s executive director.
The rug, entitled Hariti (Tibetan for “protectress of children”), which is certified child-labour-free by RugMark, will be featured in this year’s annual RugMark raffle to raise money for the organization’s mission. Creative Matters will post progress reports and images on its web blog at http://www.creativemattersinc.blogspot.com during the rug’s two-month creation, and raffle tickets will go on sale in early September.
